The daisy flower

This is my versione of a daisy flower in the style of Elisa du Sud's (elisadusud.canalblog.com) patterns. I like her doilies and creations a lot. This will be one of our free patterns, but not one of the first ones, because it is difficult.

Free patterns

I'm intentioned to publish a series of free patterns with the theme "flowers and leaves" every 1 or 2 weeks. The patterns include a lot of techniques, from pearl tatting to cluny leaves, nearly all with encapsulation of treads. The first series will be flat, later there will follow the threedimensional. Here is the first one: Inside the stem there is a third thread, which I will call "guide thread" (in the pattern in black),and the ds, which encapsulate the guide thread and the thread of the opposite color, are not flipped. This gives the work a nice stiffness. Try it out and enjoy!

THE FLOWER

Yes, I gave the last one to my sister in law. So I worked some new ones. Here they are, though the photo does not show them very well, but it is better than the last one.

multicolor thread 1

Dear tattingfriends, I like so much to work with the multicolor thread, but I have discovered, that is does not work good with little motifs or doilies, because it hides the design. Therefore I have studied some designs, where the multicolor thread works wonderful. Here are some of them: for the left one I used for the outer round of the flowers the three colors of the multicolor thread of the inner round.

the rose

This is a flower with three layers of rings and chains on one single inner ring. I used the colours which I had on the shuttles, but the next try will be in rosa, because it looks like a rose. Some modifications are needed and as it is made with 4 shuttles, if they have the same colour of thread on them, or are of the same colour, they probably have to be numbered, but the procedure is not so difficult and very enjoying.

daffodil

I eventually managed to tat a daffodil! Unfortunately the scanner is not the right media to evidence the threedimensional shape of this flower, which is much nicer, than how it appears here.

Malva

The malva is one of the first flowers, which anounce the spring and warm weather coming. I like so much to see it during my walks on the hills around Prato.

colourplay number 6

This was very difficult. Yesterday evening the second flower to join on the previos was always wrong and I did not understand, why. So, frustrated, I went to bed, determined to solve the problem. So first I thougt about not to join the flowers directly, but to put rings between later, but thinking about the position of the first chain of the flower I solved the problem. And...here it is!

I'm continuing playing with coloured flowers!

colourplay number 4

It is a long time that I had that dream to tat colourful flowers. This edging is made with 4 threads. For the two big flowers I used the daisy picot technique, which I developped further. Threads are carried inside the chains and the whole edging is made in one pass.

colourplay explanation

The first attempt of the daisy hexagon was made in two colours. Then I thought it would be nice in 3 colours. So I thougt about the use of double shuttles. I have some, but I did not get them with me on my holydays. So I thought to take the two shuttles in my hand, as if it has been a double shuttle. As soon as I tried this, I discovered, that they are not necessary, because you can take all the threads you want inside a chain with non flipped double stitches, for the rings instead there is no need to take threads inside, because they turn to closure point. I hope this explanation will help you to comprehend how I did it.

colourplay

My dear tatting friends, is there any other knotting, knitting or crocheting technique, with which you can obtain such a wonderful colour play?
